Origami Heart Advent Calendar

I wanted to make a simple home-made calendar for Mila.
Since I had some left over origami papers from my wreath,
I googled "Origami Heart Envelope" and found these
folding instructions.

I tried to put mine in a shape of a christmas tree...
bigger heart would be nice too.  Or star?

I'm pretty sure that Mila is not one of my readers yet, so I can
reveal some of the little surprises I put in those envelopes:
Cute stickers and organic, fair trade chocolate chips. 

Things I love in Finland: Maternity Package

The New Finnish Maternity Package has a new design called "Sukupuu" = "Family Tree".

obviously you can fill your own there.

The box itself is very handy - you can use
it as a baby crib or as an extention to your
family bed, since you can fold one side down.

This year it has a lot of turqoise color, which is nice! One of my favorite colors.  

And how did they knew I love owls?

And when your child grows out from the box bed and the tiny newborn clothes,
 you can restore it in your closet. It looks nice there and you don't have to hide it in the attic.
 Although, then your husband might get suspicious, and ask if you are planning to get pregnant again.
 Then you can roll your eyes and scream, "no!" "No"! (And do lot of denying and head shaking)
 It's just because it's so pretty here! Look at it. Looook at it. Pretty box full of tiny baby stuff, we're never going to use again. Ever.

Aloha, it's going to be a merry Christmas! DIY wreath

 

I found a bunch of these origami-papers from my deskdraw and decided to make my first christmas decorations this year, welcoming wreath to our door. Since it's the darkest time in Finland, I wanted to have a little bit sunshine and hawaii-wibes in it. Who said all the things in christmas should be red, gold, silver, white and dark green?

This year I'm planning to do all the decorations and food by myself, I'm so excited! What is your favourite thing in christmas? What would you like to see in my blog?

 I haven't done this kind of daydream photos with Vincent since he's not as sound sleeper as Mila was, and as you can see, he has some skin problems too. His well-being is of course my priority. I'm having other creative things going around now, just wait for it ;)

( And of course I still have my new Fairy Tales -inspired When My Baby Dreams -book coming 2013!)

Today I found out about this new Nezo Art craze over Japan.
I gave first interviews to Japan in 2010, and here you can see Mila's daydreams featured in Japanese VOGUE 2011. So may I call myself creator of this new art scene?

How to (try) stay creative with never sleeping kids...

1. Don't try to stay in your own, tiny working space.  2. Put your needy newborn in a sling. 3. Prime your huge canvas in the living room while.... 4. ...your terrible two is getting closer to edge of the paper with pencils.

5. And pray that those tiny hands stay away from the wet paint, while you cook lunch/answer to the phone/breastfeed/look the other way. 

Repeat until your painting is ready. Mine is not. Maybe in a few years...

The postman brought me the brand new when my baby dreams calendar!

And I heard good news,  it's finally for sale in the US!

PS since my sweet little prince is not ready to sleep anywhere else than in my arms, and he prefers eating, not sleeping, I haven't been able to create his daydreams yet. Well, I'm pretty sure he is dreaming about eating anyway...

How did it start? Read it from the ETSY blog!

I just wanted to show you the pictures where I got the idea. 

One day Mila fell asleep on a blanket and looked like a little fencer.

 Next day, when I was looking that picture, I thought it could be funnier if 

there was something else happening on a background. They could be her dreams illustrated!

So I waited until she was sleeping again and 

built this little forest from a pillows and blankets...
